XLrator Media & J2 Partner On Slate Of Pop Culture-Themed Projects

XLrator Media has entered into a partnership with J2 Films to co-produce a slate of pop culture and music-focused projects for worldwide distribution through XLrator’s LIFEFRAME docu label. Documentaries and series are planned, with the docu-series Origins set as the partnership’s first project.

Origins will examine the – wait for it – origins of some of the biggest comic book franchises from the point of view of the creators, fans, and industry legends. The recently-completed pilot episode focuses on Chris Claremont, credited as the writer who almost single-handedly turned Marvel’s X-Men from a little-read curiosity into Marvel’s biggest family of titles.

Also coming from XLrator Media and J2 Films is the documentary Man In The Camo Jacket about Mike Peters, lead singer of the Welsh rock band The Alarm. The film will look at the band’s rise to fame, and Peters’ battles with cancer, leading to the formation of the Love Hope Strength Foundation that works to build cancer centers and register bone marrow donors around the world. It’s planned for release in Spring 2017.

Later in 2017 is the feature length documentary Cosplay Universe in the works. Aimed at being a definitive look at the subculture of pop culture fandom who create elaborate, faithful and often complex costumes based on their favorite characters, Cosplay Universe will be released TBA in late 2017.

Other projects will be announced in the coming months.

XLrator Media acquired North American distribution rights from J2 Films/Respect Films earlier this year for the award-winning documentary She Makes Comics, about female comic book creators and artists. Directed by Marisa Stotter and produced by Stotter, Patrick Meaney and Jordan Rennert, it will be released Summer 2017.
