WHILE THE MARVEL movies are in a state of flux—the only big screen release schedule for 2024 is Deadpool & Wolverine, and the company recently announced it would reduce its output of cinematic and TV releases—the iconic publisher's television arm is doing better than ever.

While WandaVision kicked Marvel Studios's live-action TV era off with a bang, along with much surrounding excitement, things have since fizzled out significantly. The initial plan to have programming adjacent to the MCU films sounded promising at first, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier setting up Sam Wilson's turn as Captain America and WandaVision following Scarlet Witch post-Endgame as she grappled with the death of her husband Vision. But not every show was a winner.

It seems unlikely that we'll see more of Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight, for instance, although it left itself open for another season of MCU integration. And the highly anticipated Echo, which spun-off of the successful limited series Hawkeye, largely fell flat, despite a Daredevil cameo and Kingpin's return.

Thankfully, Marvel finally has another TV winner under its belt in the form of X-Men '97. One of the more successful vestiges of Fox's various X-Men adaptations, X-Men: The Animated Series served as a Saturday morning cartoon introducing kids to abridged (or slightly altered) versions of the X-Men's most well-known comic book arcs.

X-Men '97 picks up right where the original left off, and according to its Rotten Tomatoes score, it's a smash hit with both critics and fans. Marvel's decision to release its 10-episode first season in a weekly format likely contributed to the show's success, too. While longtime fans may have come immediately, newcomers could be coaxed in through word-of-mouth hype to join later on.

Now with the first season over, fans are naturally asking about Season 2. Thankfully, there's good news.

X-Men '97 is already renewed for Season 2.

While most shows have audiences waiting weeks or months after the finale airs to know the fate of its future, Marvel is hard at work on Season 2 of X-Men '97 already. The second season was announced back in 2022 at Marvel's First Animation Panel, as Forbes reports.

In fact, executive producer Brad Winderbaum also revealed Season 3 is currently in development. So there's a lot of X-Men '97 on the way.

When is X-Men '97 Season 2 premiering?

That, we don't know. While Season 2 is confirmed, there's no news on when it will actually air. It could be later this year, or if Marvel wants to, it may not come back until this time next year.

As for what it could be about? In an interview with Comicbook.com, Winderbaum also said the show will definitely stay in the '90s, but will likely move from famed Marvel writer Chris Claremont's work and into (other acclaimed writer) Grant Morrison's work on the superhero team. So still in the '90s, but a potentially new feel.
