X Ambassadors’ frontman Sam Nelson Harris was so blown away by Richard Linklater’s bold and wildly ambitious film Boyhood that seeing it once simply was not enough. So taken by the film was Harris that he watched the three-hour movie twice in the same day. Listen to him explain why on this episode of The Spark Parade above or wherever you get your podcasts.

“I’m not kidding, I saw it two times in a row, and that’s a long-ass movie!” he recalls. “I sat alone in a dark room watching this thing two times, and then watched it so many times since. I keep revisiting it because, again, [Linklater] was able to find this thing that we all take for granted and flip it on its head. That’s my North Star.”

Harris talks about being struck by the utter dedication of the film, as Boyhood is made up of small increments filmed over the course of 12 years. And yet, what truly struck Harris was the ending, as he saw himself in the story of a young boy growing up and facing all of the joys and challenges of childhood.
