Wyatt Russell and Kurt Russell attend the Apple TV+ new series "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" photo call on December 08, 2023 in West Hollywood, California.

Kurt Russell is a pro at grandpa life as he awaits the birth of his eighth grandchild.

The Escape from New York actor, 72, and son Wyatt Russell, 37, appeared together on Late Night with Seth Meyer to promote their film Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Wyatt opened up to the audience about what it's like seeing his dad as a grandfather to his siblings' children, as well as his own son, Buddy Prine, 2½.

"He's awesome, 'cause he can do all of the hard sort of lessons that sometimes I don't want to have to do," Wyatt, who is currently expecting baby No. 2 with wife Meredith Hagner, shared.

"But luckily he doesn't hide any of who he is to who my son is. So there was, like — we were going on a street when I was living in Vancouver shooting Monarch, and Buddy wants to test going on the street, and my dad goes, "No, no, no!"

The sternness of Kurt's voice startled the toddler, who then "lost it."

"He was crying, and I'm like, 'Well, I don't know. It's a good lesson,'" Wyatt laughed. "[He] comes back, I'm like, 'What does Gogi say?' And Buddy goes, 'No, no, no,' and points at the street."

"And I was like, 'Yes! You got it. Thanks, Pop!'"

Kurt went on to explain that in addition to his lines of Gogi Wines, Gogi is also the name his grandparents call him, deriving from his childhood nickname Gogo.

"I grew up as Gogo. My middle name was Vogel [but] I couldn't pronounce it when I was a little kid, so I was Gogo," he recalled.

The actor would have to change his nickname up when he got together with Wyatt's mom, Goldie Hawn, who had a similar nickname.

"One day, when I was very early on with Goldie, my dad, who called me Goge, said, 'Hey, Goge,' and we both turned around and she looked, and she said, 'How did you know my nickname?'"

From then on, he became Gogi. "Gogi was the sort of what I became to all the grandkids and to all my family," he said.

Kurt also celebrated Wyatt and Meredith as "great parents."

"It's fun to watch, it really is, with all of our kids — with Ollie and Kate's kids, and Uncle Boston comes over to everybody's house. We are very fortunate."

One of Wyatt's recent great parenting moments came when he saw Buddy's reaction to celebrating his birthday, which falls on the day after Christmas.

"We do Christmas, 25th — we wake up, we do the Christmas," Wyatt explained. "It's nuts. It's a disaster most of the day. It's great most of the day."

Wyatt and Meredith geared themselves up for another day of celebrations with their little boy, but he too, was a little partied out.

"[He] goes to sleep, wakes up. Mer and I are like, 'Buddy, it's your birthday!' Like, 'Gotta get excited,'" he shared.

"And he goes — and he's 3 — he goes, 'Ugh! Not now!'"

Laughing, the soon-to-be father of two added, "We're like, 'You got it! That's the right answer! You're learning well.' Like, no one wants to celebrate your birthday."
