‘Wrecked’ Sneak Peek: Boar-Hunting Karen Goes Topless in a Fistfight

The sentence “actress topless on beach” doesn’t usually end with “gets into fistfight with a dude,” but then Wrecked isn’t an ordinary show. The season finale sees the stranded survivors descending further into chaos, and we spoke with star Brooke Dillman about fistfights, boar burgers, and showing everybody “the ladies.”

The exclusive clip above — which is a bit NSFW due to language — features a showdown that’s been brewing since the beginning of the season: boar-hunting VP Karen versus food-hoarding schemer Todd.

“When I read the scene, I was like, ‘This is the funniest thing I’ve ever read,’ and I was so excited,” says Dillman, “Then, I thought, ‘Oh. But then I have to shoot it topless.’” Because the show shoots so quickly, she knew that she wouldn’t have many chances at it. Wardrobe gave her pasties and an adhesive strapless bra, which she almost sweated through during the first take (Wrecked was shot in Puerto Rico).

Before the second take, she pulled co-creator Justin Shipley aside and told him, “Here’s what’s going to happen: This thing is falling off in the next take.” He was concerned for her, but Dillman was adamant that they get the funniest take possible. “I’m already out there as a middle-aged woman, basically topless in front of 80 people, being filmed,” so she was prepared if the tiny coverings came off, since she was basically already nude from the waist up.

As predicted, the bra popped off. “I checked to make sure I had pasties on still, and then I continued on fighting.” The crew laughed and applauded after the take, which was well-intentioned but led to a flurry of concerned emails back to the network. “The entire TBS office was running around crazy,” Dillman was later told because, from 1,500 miles away in Atlanta, the situation sounded as if an actress had been forced into a nude scene and then was mocked by the crew.

“I didn’t know what the big deal was,” says a bemused Dillman. “It was written at the top of the scene!” But she appreciates that the cast and crew were all supportive of her. “It wasn’t like, ‘Woo! Middle-aged woman showing us the ladies!’ [The applause] was for all the right reasons,” she says with a laugh. “Never mind the toplessness! It’s just funny to have a male-female fistfight. It’s very 21st century.”

It helps that she’s comfortable in the role. “We’re all, in a weird way, like our characters,” she says of the cast, though “hopefully not as big of boobs as they are.” (Pun not intended — hopefully). That said, her co-star in the scene, Will Greenberg, isn’t nearly the jerk he is made out to be on the island. “The funny thing is, we love each other so much!” Dillman calls him the Julie McCoy of the cast — after the amiable social director on The Love Boat — for organizing impromptu dance parties and generally making life livable while everyone is away from their families.

Dillman is unwilling to give away any more secrets from the finale, but she will definitely be back for Season 2. What is she hoping for? “I thought it would be funny if Karen has a baby and no one knows whose it is. She carries it around in a little sling and it has a little spear — a little baby spear — to boar-hunt. I also thought, ‘I wonder if she could open up a boar burger stand?’ Get a visor out, maybe find some old cigarettes, and she smokes while she’s cooking her boar burgers.”

The final two episodes of Season 1 of Wrecked will air n Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 10 p.m. on TBS.
