Worthington: Streets, sidewalks repairs expected to begin in July

The Worthington Municipal Building is at 6550 N. High St. in Worthington.

An assortment of streets and sidewalks throughout Worthington will be repaired this summer as part of the city’s 2022 street and sidewalk maintenance program.

The city has budgeted $900,000 for the program this year. Among the streets slated for work include Dublin-Granville Road, High Street, Huntley Road, Linworth Road and Wilson Bridge Road, according to a city staff memo.

Rob Wetmore, the city’s engineering and geographic information systems manager, said the project is currently out to bid. He said City Council is expected to vote on a contract following a public hearing in early June.

“If the bids are fine, council will (vote) to approve the new contract at the next meeting on June 6,” Wetmore said.

If that happens, he said the funds will be released 21 days later with work expected to begin in July.

Councilwoman Bonnie Michael said crews are expected to begin work on streets and sidewalks nearby or adjacent to school buildings.

Wetmore said this includes areas of Rieber Street, which runs adjacent to Worthington Estates Elementary School and Worthingway Middle School.

“Any roads that are near schools we’ll try to get done before school starts,” he said.

Wetmore said the streets are chosen for repairs based on their condition and how important they are. He said the city evaluates the sidewalks and marks any that don’t meet the city’s standards.

“We usually look for offset sidewalks and any deterioration that can cause a hazard,” he said.

Other streets to undergo repair and maintenance include sections of:

• Proprietors Road

• Schrock Road

• Collins Drive

• South Street

• East Morning Street

• Evening Drive

• Farrington Drive

• Stafford Avenue

• Highland Avenue

• Joslyn Place

• Eastworth Court

• Whitney Avenue

• Thackery Avenue
