Some artists are well worth the wait.

Young jazz luminary Samara Joy will keep her promise to Columbia — and fulfill the interval between dates — when she plays the "We Always Swing" Jazz Series this month. The two-time Grammy winner was announced for an intimate date in May at Murry's, but rescheduled, moving into the grand Missouri Theatre for the upcoming fall show.

Joy took home the Grammys' coveted best new artist prize, as well as best jazz vocal album, in February; the 23-year-old New Yorker overcame the likes of Maneskin, Molly Tuttle and Wet Leg in the former category, veterans Cecile McLorin Salvant and The Manhattan Transfer in the latter.

In no way tempted to rest on her laurels, Joy's 2023 has included the deliciously skittering single "Tight," and a tease to her first Christmas EP, out just days after her Columbia set.

Despite the change in venue, this show still feels like the once-in-a-lifetime chance to both see an established artist and brag that you caught her "when," as Joy's star should only ever rise.

Joy plays the Missouri Theatre at 7 p.m. Oct. 24; tickets range from $10-$40. Visit https://www.wealwaysswing.org/season/2023-2024/ to learn more.
