'The worst show I've ever seen' — With Roseanne out of the picture, viewers hate 'The Conners'

Roseanne isn’t back, but The Conners are. The highly anticipated follow-up show premiered Tuesday night to lower-than-expected ratings but critical approval. Besides tuning in to find out how the show did away with Roseanne, what did viewers actually think about the show?

The consensus? Not great.

“This show should have stayed ‘cancelled,'” one viewer said succinctly. Another commenter was equally as blunt, stating; “Probably the worst show I’ve ever seen.”

“The Conners” wouldn’t be around if Roseanne Barr was still employed by ABC. The comedian sent out an inappropriate tweet about former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett on May 29. The network quickly cut the cord, firing Roseanne and canceling the show. Shortly after that, rumors swirled of a continuation of “Roseanne” without Roseanne Barr. Three weeks after the whole ordeal, “The Conners” spinoff was picked up, with Barr officially having no involvement.

Barr’s exit and the way ABC handled the whole situation soured the experience for many fans.

“TV shows have become political statements instead of entertainment,” wrote one commenter. “If ‘The Connors’ got good ratings, it’s only because that first episode is the de facto last episode of the original,” said another user. “Maybe next episode they can tackle the nation’s addiction to outrage,” expressed another.

Roseanne herself responded to the show on, tweeting late on Tuesday night “I AIN’T DEAD, B******!!!!”

Maybe everybody is obsessing over the show and all the surrounding drama a little too much. As one user put it, perhaps it’s time to enjoy the finer things in life: “Go outside or spend time with your family or friends.”
