World Series burger battle: In-N-Out vs. Whataburger?

This year’s World Series has a juicy subplot: It’s California vs. Texas, which is also the battle of In-N-Out Burger and Whataburger.

Now, players from the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros aren’t sworn to uphold territorial burger rights of the state in which they play. Many of them grew up in different states or even live in different places during the offseason. So we had to ask them: In-N-Out or Whataburger?

No one went as far as Sacramento Kings rookie De’Aaron Fox, who made internet waves when he proclaimed In-N-Out is overrated, but Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. was the closest.

“I don’t like In-N-Out Burger very much,” he said, which might have earned him plenty of boos were he starting a game in California instead of Texas.

Our responders didn’t 100 percent toe state lines either.

Curtis Granderson of the Dodgers shunned In-N-Out — but mainly because Whataburger is open later. “If they were to open a little later, I’d give In-N-Out the nod,” Granderson said.

Likewise, Astros outfielder Josh Reddick — who has played in California for much of his career before signing with Houston — picked In-N-Out and said: “It’s much better.”
