Megan Rapinoe continues to find a larger and larger fan base, on and off the field. The U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder was so integral to the team’s record breaking fourth World Cup victory that she was awarded the Golden Boot and Golden Ball after the team beat the Netherlands on Sunday. She then celebrated with an Instagram post, quoting lyrics from the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, who died after being shot outside his clothing store earlier this year.

Accompanying an on-field image of Rapinoe toting both trophies, the caption says, “Ain’t really trip on the credit. I just paid my dues. I just respected the game, now my name all in the news.” She finishes an additional line from Hussle’s “Hussle and Motivate" saying, “Trippin' on all of my moves, quote me on this, got a lot more to prove.” What that means, if we’re reading it correctly, is that the Democrats finally have a frontrunner for 2024.

Rapinoe's politics have almost made as big of waves off the field as her incredible performance throughout this year's tournament. After being asked by Eight by Eight Magazine if she was excited about going to the White House if the USNWT won, she responded, “I'm not going to the fucking White House.” Even with Trump pressed on by asking her not to “disrespect the country,” she maintained her stance.

Rapinoe has also led recent discussions about equal pay for female athletes in the soccer world, with women being paid just a percentage of what the U.S. Men's National Team gets. In short, when Rapinoe opens her mouth, she’s got something important to say, and if those Nipsey Hussle lyrics are any indication, the American superstar is far from ready to give up making headlines with her feet or her activism.
