Woody Harrelson Reveals He Gave Up Pot After ‘Partying Too F***ing Hard’

Many might imagine that Woody Harrelson and a joint could be two inseparable entities, and for 30 years, it looks like that was indeed possibly the case.

However, the actor has revealed that he stopped smoking “that good herb” almost a year ago because he felt “it was keeping (him) from being emotionally available.”

“The effect of it is euphoria. But when you’re doing it all the time, it just becomes…Well, you know,” Harrelson said somewhat cryptically in an interview with Vulture.

Despite his recent decision to leave his joints at the door, Harrelson confessed that he still considers himself to be a “party animal,” just an “extremely moderate” one.

The actor was supposed to be promoting his latest movie “Wilson,” a comedy about a lonely, neurotic man who reunites with his estranged wife, played by Laura Dern, but the conversation turned to the side-effects of smoking pot.

“It messes with my head,” the interviewer prompted, and Harrelson agreed.

“Yeah, that was a little bit of my issue. Just 30 solid years of just partying too f—ing hard,” Harrelson said.

Harrelson was also keen to stress that this didn’t mean a sudden change in heart against the use of marijuana. After all, Harrelson has been one of Hollywood’s most vocal proponents of recreational marijuana use, and once even applied for a license to turn his Hawaii home into a weed dispensary.

“I don’t have a problem at all with smoking. I think it’s great. I think it’s a great drug, in terms of… Even cops say that the side effect is euphoria,” he said.
