Woodstock 50 Has Officially Been Cancelled
Despite the best efforts of the organizers, Woodstock 50 has been cancelled.
The Anniversary Event Is Off
After a number of setbacks, the 50th anniversary celebration of Woodstock has been cancelled. Woodstock 50 was intended to be a three-day festival to raise money for getting out the vote and various organizations that fought climate change.
Festival co-founder Michael Lang released a statement expressing his disappointment:
"We are saddened that a series of unforeseen setbacks has made it impossible to put on the festival we imagined with the great lineup we had booked and the social engagement we were anticipating. We released all the talent so any involvement on their part would be voluntary. Due to conflicting radius issues in the DC area many acts were unable to participate and others passed for their own reasons."
A Series Of Setbacks
The festival was plagued with various setbacks since the start, weathering shaky funding, a controversial move from New York to Maryland, and acts like Jay-Z, Dead & Company, and John Fogerty pulling out.
It Would Have Been Quite A Line Up
The festival was originally intended to include the likes of Common, The Killers, Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Chance the Rapper, Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters, David Crosby, Janelle Monae, Brandi Carlile and Halsey.
While Woodstock 50 may be cancelled, a smaller event commemorating the anniversary thrown by Ringo Starr, Carlos Santana, and John Fogerty will occur on the original site at Bethel, New York.
