If You Wondered What Jim Carrey Would Look Like in 'The Shining,' Look No Further

You might recognize him from his multiple iconic roles ranging from 'Ace Ventura’, ‘The Mask’, ‘Dumb and Dumber’ and the Christmas favorite, ‘The Grinch’. Jim Carrey is the most notorious actor and comedian known to man.

Carrey’s ability to adapt to multiple personas on-screen has made him an individual to admire in the world of entertainment. Despite his huge accolade of on-screen work, have you ever wondered what he would look like in other notorious roles?

Take for example the 1980 psychological horror film, ‘The Shining’. If you have never seen the film, the plot takes place in the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado. The esteemed Jack Nicholson plays the role of Jack Torrance who gets the job as a winter caretaker for the hotel.

Jack is an out of luck writer who sees the opportunity to use the isolated hotel for some creativity. He settles in with his wife Wendy (Shelley Duval) and his son Danny (Danny Lloyd). Danny suffers from psychic premonitions, but soon the hotel starts to affect more than just Danny.

Jack Nicholson in ‘The Shining’ has become a cult classic and the bane of many memes, but with the help of modern technology instead of Nicholson as Jack, you can watch Jim Carrey.

DeepFakes is the use of AI technology to switch or alter a person in a video with another. This includes the person’s facial expressions and the way the character moves. DeepFakes have gotten so realistic that it’s sometimes difficult to tell if they are real or not.

The Youtube channel, Ctrl-Shift Face, creates deepfake videos switching out actors in famous films for another. The channel has made multiple videos switching out Nicholson for Carrey and if you didn’t know any better or had no knowledge of the film; you would believe Carrey was the original actor.

It’s hard to distinguish one from the other. Even if the character is moving, the facial image hardly falters. The only hiccup in deepfakes is that the voices don’t exactly match up.

You can still hear Nicholson, but your eyes are seeing Jim Carrey. It's an illusion that’s hard to believe. Carrey could as well have played the role of Jack. Sadly, Carrey was around eighteen at the time the film premiered and wouldn’t have been as convincing as Nicholson during the time.

The Youtube channel has many deepfakes using actors ranging from Keanu Reeves to altering The Terminator with Sylvester Stallone. If you want to see what an alternate reality to movies could look like, I would check on Youtube.
