Woman sentenced in deadly hit-and-run of Sandy Springs man and his dog

A woman who was found guilty in a deadly hit-and-run will spend the next decade behind bars.

A judge sentenced Dominique Houston to 15 years for the April 2021 death of Michael Farmer in Sandy Springs. She will have to serve 10 years with the remaining five years on probation.

Houston, 38, hit and killed Farmer in front of his Hammond Drive home. Farmer’s dog Bruce also died in the crash.

Officers said she had been running from the scene of another wreck on Roswell Road and Interstate 285 when she hit Farmer.

“All of a sudden she just pulled back and went around me and left,” the driver said.

Police were able to determine that the car was a 2020 white Chevy Malibu with Florida tags. They found the car and Houston in Newnan, where she lives.

Friends remembered Farmer as an “infectiously kind person” and club rugby coach at Roswell High School.

“He’s a great guy to rely on giving, giving that positive feedback, making sure that the boys had something to hold on to after trainings or after games,” Sam Stephenson told Channel 2 in 2021.
