Woman frustrated by roommate’s typical at-home behavior: ’She has the same right to the space as you’
A woman can’t understand why her roommate is always home and wants her to leave.
She shared her story on Reddit’s “Am I the A****** (AITA)” forum. Her roommate is a college student who takes some classes online. She takes issue with the fact that the roommate is always home, even on weekends. Now she wants to ask the roommate to spend some time away from home.

“I am in my 30s, and my roommate is 19,” the Reddit poster said. “She is an international student, and her school is walking distance from the apartment. This is my first time with a roommate. I’m often gone for eight to 10 hours every day for school as all my classes are in person. (I am in a graduate program at a different school.) She has hybrid classes. While she spends the majority of her time in her room with the door closed, I NEVER have the apartment by myself. She never goes anywhere and never does anything. Even on the weekends, she stays locked in her room. I have suggested she join a club on campus, and she has not.”

Now the woman wants to make her roommate leave the house more.
“Additionally, she has two sisters that live two hours away,” the Reddit poster said. “While it is a long drive, I am surprised she never visits them because they are all from a different country. I just want a few hours alone in the apartment sometimes – especially since she gets all day to have the apartment to herself while I am at school. Even on a Sunday, I decided to go to the library instead of study in the apartment. WIBTA for asking her to give me some alone time in the apartment even though she often has the door closed in her room?”
Reddit users thought the roommate in question was doing nothing wrong.
“She has the same right to the space as you; you’re both paying,” a person said.
“The only way to guarantee that you have alone time in an apartment is to not have a roommate and to live by yourself,” another wrote.
“I don’t know where OP is located, but there’s also this whole pandemic thing happening,” someone added.
