Sara Plowman was getting ready for a dinner with her fiancé when she decided to film a video of her outfit for TikTok.

The influencer, who also works in sales, recalls how she had just returned home and was running late. After changing out of her work clothes, Plowman tells PEOPLE she grabbed her phone to record a quick outfit of the day before leaving her apartment.

And that's when she noticed something was off.

"I was like, 'Why the hell does my outfit not look right?' " Plowman, 27, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Initially, because the camera was positioned far away, Plowman didn't realize she had forgotten to put on her skirt.

"I was so excited for this outfit because my skirt (which I forgot to put on at first) was brand new!" she says.

After capturing her reaction to the outfit mishap on camera, Plowman posted the video to TikTok. Since then, it has gone viral with over 30 million views and 17,000 comments.

Plowman says she initially posted it thinking one of her friends — who often refers to her as the goofiest in the friend group — would see it and text her. "But an hour after posting it, it had 1 million views, and I was like, 'Wait, what's going on?' " she recalls.

"I would have 100% walked downstairs without my skirt, but it was so cold that night that I definitely would have felt a draft the moment I stepped outside," she adds. "The fit check literally saved me!"

The influencer adds how she's always rushing from work to events, adjusting to a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. job while also being an influencer. But she says she wouldn't have it any other way.

"Don't give up!" Plowman says. "It can be stressful, and people may doubt your ability to juggle both roles, but at the end of the day, it can open doors that wouldn't otherwise be accessible if you didn't put yourself out there on social media!"

She continues, "Just be yourself, be confident and don't take it too seriously."
