A woman was left partially paralyzed after attending an April concert in New York.

According to the Independent, 24-year-old Bird Piché attended the show of Australian band, Trophy Eyes, held at Mohawk Place in Buffalo, New York on April 30 when she suffered a “catastrophic spinal cord injury” after a member of the band dived into the crowd.

A loved one, who set up a GoFundMe page for Piché, revealed that the concergoer had to have extensive surgery and “has a long recovery ahead and will need all the help she can get.”

In a statement to PEOPLE, Mohawk Place shared that the venue "has a very strict no stage diving or crowd surfing policy."

Additionally, a representative for Mohawk Place noted, "There are signs posted everywhere in the venue and notice was included in the emails for this show with the show's promoter and the band themselves. Our policy and practiced procedure is a full show stop for any stage diving which was put into place for this incident."

PEOPLE has also contacted Trophy Eyes’ management and the GoFundMe organizers for comment, but they did not immediately respond.

“It is still too early to know what her prognosis is but after leaving the hospital she will need to go to a rehab facility. She will obviously not be able to work during this time,” Stephanie Brown continued in the GoFundMe page description. “Bird recently began running and in the featured photo she had placed second in her age group!”

A family friend revealed that while Piché had regained sensation in her fingers, her neck was broken.

Leo Wolters Tejera, who was also in attendance for the show, told WKBW earlier this month, "You can tell immediately, once the singer hit the crowd, the video cuts off. It was an immediate, we knew something was wrong."

"Her neck was definitely broken and as of today, she has feeling in her arms. She can use her fingers and hands and stuff," Tejera added. "Her fine motor skills are a little rough but the surgeon said that's kind of normal from the surgery and anesthesia."

Meanwhile, Trophy Eyes released a statement on May 3, stating the “situation has shaken us all to our core.”

“As a result of a tragic accident on the night of April 30th, a Trophy Eyes fan was injured at our Buffalo NY show,” the band's statement on X (formerly known as Twitter) read. “We elected to immediately shut down the show as John accompanied them to the hospital with their family.”

The group added that they were “truly heartbroken” as they directed fans to the GoFundMe page.

“Please keep Birdie in your thoughts,” they continued. “We remain in close contact with them and will expand on this as new news arrives.”

The rock band’s members include John Floreani, Jeremy Winchester, Andrew Hallett, Blake Caruso, Callum Cramp and Kevin Cross.

In a video shared on Reddit, Floreani was captured diving into the crowd before being carried by some fans.

“I was at the Buffalo show last night. Trophy Eyes were two minutes into the first song of their set and the show was abruptly halted,” the Reddit user’s caption read. “A girl in the middle of the crowd ended up getting seriously injured after this stage dive 😔 I left immediately once I saw the state she was in, I heard the show was canceled once the ambulance showed up.”

So far, $65,326 has been raised of the $100,000 goal set on Piché's GoFundMe.
