Wolfgang Van Halen is remembering his late father Eddie on what would've been his 69th birthday.

On Friday, the Mammoth WVH frontman, 32, shared a touching tribute to the rock legend, alongside a throwback image of the pair spending quality time together years ago.

"I wish you were here so I could give you a big hug, go to dinner, celebrate it with you and make a dumb joke about it being your 69th birthday," Wolfgang wrote. "Just regular s---. I miss hearing you laugh. I miss laughing with you. It’s the little things."

In the photo, featuring a younger Wolfgang posing with his dad backstage, the father-son duo smiled at the camera as Eddie rocked a guitar around his neck. The pic was likely taken sometime during the duo's touring days, as Wolfgang began touring with Van Halen in 2007 and played bass on the band's final studio album, 2012's A Different Kind of Truth.

Eddie died in October 2020 following a years-long battle with throat cancer. He was 65.

"I’ll do my best to keep a smile on my face and think of you today," Wolfgang wrote of his dad. "But then again, that’s not very different than any other day so far without you. I love and miss you more than you could ever possibly know."

He added: "Happy Birthday, Pop ❤️."

Valerie Bertinelli, TV personality and Wolfgang's mother, shared an image of the father-son duo to Instagram herself, captioned "Happy Birthday Ed 🤍." The photo featured the pair squatting down to take an image, with Eddie smiling at the camera.

"❤️," Wolfgang commented in response.

Back in October, Wolfgang officially tied the knot with now-wife Andraia Allsop while surrounded by 90 guests at their home in Los Angeles after eight years together.

The ceremony took place inside the duo's living room, so they could "have privacy and just have our moment together with everyone," Andraia told PEOPLE.

"Our goal was just to bring all of our closest family and friends together," Andraia said. "The past few years, not only with the world, but also with personal tragedies, haven't been the easiest, but we wanted to create this wedding as a celebration not only just for us to get married, but a celebration for the people we love."

Wolfgang and his mother also walked down the aisle to a song that his father had written for him, an instrumental piece called "316," he told PEOPLE at the time.

"It brings me such a nice sense of peace knowing Wolfie and Andraia have each other for the rest of their lives," Bartinelli told PEOPLE at the time.

"They really ‘get’ one another. Their humor is very similar, they like similar things, they know how to give each other space and they’re just so comfortable together."
