It’s that time of the year for scary movies and creative costumes, and Wheel of Fortune is also getting in on the spooky vibes of Halloween. But some folks believe that the game show may have gone a little too far with a particularly unnerving puzzle this week that gave everyone the chills.

After getting off to a strong start, contestant Jordan Costa from San Diego, California was asked by host Pat Sajak to complete a puzzle under the “Movie Quote” category. Jordan’s fellow WOF competitor Darilyn Harrell helped put him on the right track and it was up to him to finish it off. With only the “Y” and “M” missing, Jordan said the phrase “Candyman” four times to win a whopping $25,800 in total earnings.

“That, by the way, for those of you that don’t know is from a film called Candyman,” Pat said amid the audience's applause. “And I said it a fifth time which means he appears. Isn’t that the way it works?”

“Absolutely, we should be terrified,” Jordan said. “Maybe he’s under the wheel,” Pat joked.

Although Pat and Jordan moved on to the next category and puzzle, WOF fans watching from home immediately took to Twitter to voice their concern over the segment.

Wheel of Fortune is playing a dangerous game tonight,” one person said. “Like they had him say Candyman x4. Wheel of Fortune y’all wild!!!” another added. “Wheel of Fortune just had ‘Candyman Candyman Candyman’ as their phrase and that is pure evil,” a different fan said. “Why are we summoning #candyman by making contestants say his name repeatedly? I was waiting for him to bust out of the letters and get Vanna @WheelofFortune,” a follower commented.

In case you're wondering what the big deal is, Candyman is a film franchise that first debuted in 1992 and was inspired after the 1985 short story The Forbidden by Clive Barker. Since then, the movie series has expanded with three additional titles, including the most recent one which hit theatres this past summer.

In the flicks, characters who hear about the urban legend usually test fate by saying "Candyman" five times in front of a mirror. The fictional Candyman then appears and kills them. Of course, it's just a horror movie so there's no reason to freak out ... but even still, what a way to give viewers the creeps!
