In a video for PEOPLE and e.l.f's Pep Talks series, the Dallas Wings player shared her secret to taking on the court (and inspired some young players too)

Maddy Siegrist wants you to shoot for your most confident self.

The basketball star, 23, shares her secret to taking on the court in a new video for PEOPLE and e.l.f.’s Pep Talks series — and she wants you to bring that game-winning confidence into your life, too.

“Whether you’re stepping on the court, going in the classroom or just going to take on the day, remember that confidence is key,” Siegrist says.

But confidence didn't always come so easy for the Dallas Wings star. She says that good coaching has helped her level up over the years, and now she’s passing on the sage advice.

“When I started playing basketball at a young age, I felt that confidence was something that not only did I struggle with, but a lot of players struggled with,” Siegrist says. “And I had a coach tell me that confidence is key, and I remember that ever since.”

Siegrist also stresses the importance of routine, saying that she likes to be “consistent in everything I do.”

“Whether that’s shooting, playing defense, rebounding the ball, I’ve found that consistency can be found through routine," she continues. "Whether that’s my shooting routine, my stretching routine, my lifting routine. So, I’ve taken the routine to different parts of my life.”

One routine that’s important for the WNBA star? Self care. Siegrist says she starts each day by washing her face, and she likes to use foundation, mascara and lip oil to give her “that little extra edge” for the day.

Siegrist shows off her makeup routine as she gives her pep talk, using e.l.f.’s Halo Glow Liquid Filter, Glow Reviver Lip Oil and Lash ‘N Roll Mascara.

e.l.f. SKIN recently partnered with TeamSnap, a youth sports app, to hold the Be Your Best e.l.f. Cheer Contest to empower and reward young female athletes. e.l.f. hopes to address the sports drop-out rate among girls by empowering teams.

Teams submitted their cheers and e.l.f. chose three winners — Collingswood Youth Soccer, San Gabriel Elite Volleyball and SK Sunblazer Soccer Club — who will receive $5,000 for their organization.

These young athletes showed their team spirit and proved the importance of self confidence.

"e.l.f. SKIN, we are here to win!" the SK Sunblazers cheer in their submission.

Jennifer Jacomino, mom of Alexa from the SK Sunblazers, says that e.l.f. and the soccer club “help empower girls to be more than just a pretty face.”

"Sports serve as a powerful outlet to instill discipline and dedication in girls,” Jacomino says. “Through participation in sports, parents hope to build self-esteem and confidence in young girls everywhere.”

Just like Siegrist says “confidence is key” no matter what your day has in store, Jacomino believes that e.l.f. inspires “girls to be their best on and off the field.”
