Wizarding World of Harry Potter Unveils New Light Show Dedicated to the Dark Arts

If you visit Universal Orlando Resort and head straight for Knockturn Alley, this new light show is sure to make your dark mark tingle.

On Thursday, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort announced a “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which will include a display of lights, music and special effects centered around dark magic.

Lord Voldemort will even make an appearance in the show, making this “a new dimension of sorcery” that strays from their past displays, which include “The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle and “The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle.”

During the show, guests will see Dementors, Death Eaters and other creepy characters like Aragog the spider and Mountain Trolls before he-who-must-not-be-named makes an appearance. According to a release, toward the end of the show, someone will cast a Patronus charm in a classic Defense Against the Dark Arts move familiar to fans of the Potter books and movies.

The images on the side of the castle will be accompanied by an exclusive musical arrangement based on the original score composed for the film series, conducted by William Ross and recorded by the London Symphony in London.

News of the Wizarding World’s new light show comes on the heels of the announcement of a new roller coaster, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, which will take guests on a thrilling ride on the half-giant’s bike and opens in June of this year.

“Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” will illuminate both parks, first coming to Universal Studios Hollywood from April 13-28 and returning from May 25-27. Dates for its Universal Orlando Resort debut will be announced at a later time.
