Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose are raising their son, Sebastian Taylor Thomaz, to be creative and thoughtful.

The former couple welcomed their child, whom they sometimes call "Bash," on Feb. 21, 2013, and split the following year. Sebastian is the "Young, Wild & Free" rapper's only child, while Rose has another son, Slash, with her ex-boyfriend Alexander "AE" Edwards.

Rose told PEOPLE in 2016 about the surprises of parenting Sebastian, including the reality of welcoming a child despite trying to prepare for the moment. "I had my baby and I was just like, 'What the hell do I do now?' " she said. "Your maternal instinct comes in, and you figure it out along the way. And that's the fun part about it."

For Khalifa, fatherhood encouraged him to focus on family. In his 2019 docu-series, Wiz Khalifa: Behind the Cam, the musician opened up about how Sebastian encouraged him to mature.

"Bash is a huge part of that transition — and not being with his mother, too, because it forced me to be more responsible and do the things I wouldn't normally do," Khalifa said. "The older that he gets, the more influence I have on him. So it's not as much as just makin' sure he's good; it's actually being there."

Khalifa and Rose welcomed Sebastian on Feb. 21, 2013. The proud new dad announced his baby boy's birth on X (formerly Twitter).

"Happy Birthday Sebastian 'The Bash' Taylor Thomaz," Khalifa wrote. "Everyone welcome this perfect young man into the world."

During an appearance on The Ricki Lake Show in May 2013, Rose shared how she "tried everything" to have a natural birth after learning the baby was breech at 37 weeks but eventually accepted the need for a c-section.

"When I went in I was terrified, shaking. I was so scared," she said of the birth. "But then Wiz came in [and] he just talked to me the whole time. All of a sudden we heard Sebastian cry and we both started crying. We were like, 'Oh my gosh, our baby's here!' "

He inspired his dad's clothing line

In October 2016, Khalifa launched a father-son clothing collection in collaboration with Junk Food Clothing. The line was inspired by the rapper's then-3-year-old son and was aptly dubbed "BASH By Junk Food" after the toddler's nickname.

"All the designs are based around Sebastian — all of his hobbies and the things that he's into. I just really wanted it to feel personal to him, so when he sees it, he gets excited," Khalifa told PEOPLE, adding that his son "loves pumpkins," which inspired a sock design.

"The Thrill" artist also revealed he and Sebastian shared the same sense of style. "I shop with him a lot, and we match often," he said. "He's definitely got my sense of style. Everybody tells me how fresh he usually looks, from store-bought stuff, so we're making his own stuff now."

He loves singing

Sebastian has been singing since he was a toddler and has developed a love for rap. Khalifa revealed on The Kelly Clarkson Show that despite his son's interest in his genre of music, Sebastian didn't listen to his dad's recommendations.

"He's got his own little playlist of music," Khalifa told host Kelly Clarkson in 2019. "When he gets in the car after school, he's like, 'Daddy, play this song, this song, that song.' I mean, I try to put him on the new stuff, and he doesn't even want to hear it."

Three years later, the "Black and Yellow" artist made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he shared that Sebastian also likes to create original music.

"There's times where I leave the house, and I'll come back home, and he's like, 'Hold on, Dad. I'm recording my song right now.' " Khalifa recalled. "I have a studio in the house. So, he goes in there, and he bosses my engineer around. And he's cool as heck, yo."

He's featured on his dad's song "Zoney"

While he's experimenting with making his own music, Sebastian also has a credit on one of Khalifa's 2016 songs, "Zoney." In the track's outro, he can be heard telling his dad, "I love you," and mimicking Khalifa's signature laugh.

Sebastian was also featured in the music video for the song, in which he plays with his dad and enjoys ice cream. Since then, he's made appearances in Khalifa's music videos for "Bammer" in 2020 and "Little Do They Know" in 2023.

Beyond his influence on Khalifa's music, Sebastian has also changed his dad's lifestyle on the road. The rapper shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2022 that "the party changes" when Sebastian is on tour, and it becomes more about "family time and kid time."

He loves Taylor Swift

Sebastian is a full-on Swiftie. In October 2017, Rose shared a video on Instagram of her son singing along to Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do."

The songstress saw the clip and gifted Sebastian tickets to her Reputation tour in March 2018, and Rose posted a clip of him opening the VIP box.

"Oh my God, she sent me a letter!" he exclaimed before smiling into the camera and expressing his thanks to the singer.

At the May 2018 concert, Sebastian even met Swift. Khalifa shared behind-the-scenes snippets on his Instagram Story, including his son handing the pop star a bouquet and calling her a "cool rockstar," per Entertainment Tonight.

Khalifa coached Sebastian's baseball team

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2019, Khalifa revealed he was coaching his son's baseball team.

"I love children, and this is the most important time in his life," he said. "Especially spending it with me and having his friends and the relationships that they're gonna build — any hand that I can have in that, I'm trying to do it."

Khalifa shared that one of the other coaches didn't recognize him until one of his interviews popped up on TV.

"They had to tell him [the other coach] that I was who I was — but it's cool because I felt like maybe I'm doing such a good job as a coach that he didn't even know I was a rapper," Khalifa added.

Rose is raising him to be a feminist

Rose has been a longtime women's rights activist and told PEOPLE in May 2016 that she was raising Sebastian "to be a feminist."

"When my son goes to school and his friend calls a girl a h--, I want him to be the first person to say, 'Man, that's not cool. You don't talk to women like that,' " Rose said. "That's very important to me."

On an episode of Emily Ratajkowski's High Low with EmRata podcast in February 2023, Rose shared that she is also open with her son about her past work as a stripper and having an account on OnlyFans to help him understand her choices.

She told Ratajkowski, "If they don't learn from you, they're going to learn from TikTok and Instagram."

Sebastian's parents are "best friends"

In a January 2024 appearance on Tamron Hall, Rose opened up about her co-parenting relationship with Khalifa.

“I think that me and Wiz are so best friends now, that — we’re so far past being in love that I can say that now, right?" she said. "It’s not like anything that we would circle back to or anything. We’re just friends and co-parents."

A few years prior, in May 2021, Khalifa shared on the Bootleg Kev podcast that Sebastian's routine works well because he and Rose "live right down the street from each other so he [Sebastian] gets to spend a lot of time with both of us."

Their parenting dynamic also goes deeper than convenience. "I think we both share a lot of the same views, if not pretty much all of them, on how he should be raised," Khalifa added. "And that's really important, to be on the same page as your partner."
