And the winner of ‘The Voice’ Season 13 is…
Well, it has finally happened. A bona fide rock ’n’ roll goddess has actually won a TV singing competition! Going where American Idol’s Haley Reinhart, Allison Iraheta, and Carly Smithson, not to mention The Voice Season’s 2’s Juliet Simms, frustratingly could not, on Tuesday night Chloe Kohanski — the raspy, sassy lady who topped the iTunes charts covering Stevie Nicks, Blondie, Bonnie Tyler, Kim Carnes, and Cyndi Lauper while rocking Heart-sister ringlets and Bowie-circa-Scary Monsters glittery clown tears — prevailed on The Voice Season 13 finale.
The quirky Team Blake diva took the title shortly after stealing the show with a completely badass, rebel-yelling “White Wedding” duet alongside fellow peroxide-blond rocker Billy Idol — an awesome performance that had fans crying out for more, more, more. Meanwhile, Team Adam’s Addison Agen, Team Miley’s Brooke Simpson, and Team Blake’s Red Marlow respectively placed second, third, and fourth.
“You’re a superstar, sis — and maybe you’ll let me open for you one of these days,” quipped proud coach Blake Shelton, as Chloe secured him his incredible sixth Voice victory.
Other highlights of Tuesday’s spectacular, star-studded, two-hour finale included a duet by Noah Mac and Bastille on “World Gone Mad”; Norah Jones crooning her classic “Don’t Know Why” with Addison Agen; Sia belting “Titanium” with fellow powerhouse Brooke Simpson; a funky “Lemon” performance by former Voice coach Pharrell Williams with his recently reunited, keytar-assisted, alternative hip-hop trio N.E.R.D.; next season’s coach Kelly Clarkson singing “Medicine”; and the live debut of Season 12 winner Chris Blue’s bluesy new single, “Blue Blood Blues.”
And then there was THE BEST PERFORMANCE IN VOICE HERSTORY, when former Team J.Hud semifinalist Chris Weaver (you know, the worship leader by day/drag queen by night) pranced out in his Nedra Belle eleganza and slayed “Bang Bang” with Jessie J. There were not enough shoes in the show’s wardrobe department to throw at this tour de fierce.
The Voice has a lamentably shoddy track record with its contestants (Chris Blue is at least getting some promo and the opportunity to release an album, which is more than can be said for Season 11’s Sundance Head, Season 10’s Alisan Porter, or several other past winners), but Chloe has a current, marketable look and unique sound. She’s a star, a rock star, and she deserves a real shot. Watch this space.
