Wilmington-shot body horror film drops trailer, announces premiere date on Hulu
Just in time for Halloween, the new trailer for Wilmington-shot body horror film "Appendage" dropped last week.
Shot in Wilmington during the summer of last year, "Appendage" stars Hadley Robinson ("Little Women") as a stressed-out young fashion designer whose self-doubt manifests itself as a sentient growth on her body: The Appendage.
"Appendage" premieres Oct. 2 on the Hulu streaming service and is being billed as a "Huluween Original." Naturally, the movie's tagline is, "Embrace your inner demons."
The movie marks the directorial debut of Anna Zlokovic, who based it on her 2021 short film of the same name. The feature version of "Appendage" premiered in March at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. A review in industry publication Variety called it "sufficiently polished to pass muster as a night’s streaming entertainment for undiscriminating genre fans."
Along with Zlokovic and Alex Familian, starring actress Robinson is a co-producer of the film. Robinson is best-known for playing Jeannie Buss, daughter of L.A. Lakers owner Jerry Buss, in the Max series "Winning Time."
The trailer, which carries kind of a classic '80s horror vibe, doesn't show much of Wilmington. (The movie is set in New York City.) But permits filed last year with the city of Wilmington indicate that scenes were shot at the Carolina Apartments downtown, as well as at several private apartments in the downtown area.
Other locations include Reggie's 42nd Street Tavern, Angie's Bed & Breakfast, PBC Design on Market Street, Skylin Realty on South Front Street and a private home on South Live Oak Drive.
