A Wilmington choreographer is having a viral moment thanks to a dance sequence on hit teen drama "The Summer I Turned Pretty," which airs on Amazon Prime.

On the sixth episode of the second season of the show, which shot in the Wilmington area last year, characters played by actors Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer get down on the dance floor, performing a fun and goofily wholesome routine to the strains of the Miley Cyrus anthem "Party in the USA."

The sequence, which was created by Wilmington dancer and choreographer Kevin Lee-y Green, was apparently a hit with viewers, with more than 9 million people searching for how to do the dance on the social media site TikTok.

An untold number of the show's fans posted their own versions of the the routine, and Green's own "how to" tutorial on TikTok has been seen more than 100,000 times.

"This has been an amazing experience," Green wrote in a Facebook post. "I’m still processing the fact that the little boy from Bolivia, NC that everyone made fun of for being a dancer is living this reality."

The season finale of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" airs Friday on Amazon Prime.

A video on Green's Facebook page features behind-the-scenes footage of Green teaching Kaufman and Spencer the dance and includes a montage of fans recreating the dance on TikTok.

This isn't the first time Green has done choreography for a television series shooting in Wilmington. Last year, he choreographed a sequence for the Fox show "Our Kind of People."

Green, who has won large national grants for his original dance works, is the co-founder and artistic director of Wilmington's Techmoja Dance & Theatre Co.

On Aug. 3, Amazon Prime announced that there would be a third and final season of "The Summer I Turned Pretty," but whether a third season would shoot in Wilmington is not known. The show, which Amazon said is one of the most-watched ever on the streaming service, is based on a series of three best-selling young adult novels by Jenny Han, who is also one of its executive producers and its showrunner.

Film and television production in Wilmington and nationwide has been almost entirely shut down since May due to the ongoing strikes by unions representing writers and actors. In a release, Amazon said that "production on season three will not begin until after labor negotiations … have been resolved."
