It's been an epic year for Austin's newest Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Willie Nelson, and there's a good chance you have a Willie fan on your holiday shopping list.

“He is the patron saint of Austin, that guy,” Kevin Russell, lead singer for Austin band Shinyribs, told the Statesman in mid-April, before Willie's 90th birthday. Austinites might disagree over all sorts of things, “but you can usually always agree that, ‘Yeah, I like Willie Nelson. He’s pretty great,’” he said.

Whether you're shopping for a newly minted Austinite or an old diehard who used to haunt the Armadillo, here are a few options for a Willie nice holiday gift.

Need a new Willie album? He released two this year

While you're over at Willie's site perusing merch, it's worth noting that he celebrated his 91st trip around the sun by releasing not one, but two new albums plus a book. The ludicrously prolific singer-songwriter released his 73rd studio album, "I Don't Know A Thing About Love: The Songs of Harlan Howard," in March. The album, which included classics like "Tiger By The Tail" (co-written by Buck Owens) and the Waylon Jennings hit "The Choking Kind," paid tribute to Howard, a singer-songwriter who gave Willie his first job as a songwriter.

Then, in September, Nelson released his 74th album, "Bluegrass," a 12-song collection that reworks favorites like "Bloody Mary Morning," "Yesterday's Wine" and "On the Road Again" with Appalachian strings.

What about a new Willie book?

Willie's latest book, "Energy Follows Thought: The Stories Behind My Songs," co-written by longtime collaborator David Ritz, was released in late October. The book chronicles the tales behind 160 of Willie's songs.

If there's a next level Willie fan on your list, consider a pre-order of "Picnic: Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Tradition" by former Statesman staffer Dave Thomas. The book, a hardcover volume that retails at $35, will be out sometime in the spring. It traces the history of Willie's picnic from a rough and tumble hippie happening that riled up religious types and quiet citizenry in rural Texas to its modern incarnation as a high production event at Q2 stadium.

These books are just the latest installments in a long line of Willie lit. A few older Willie titles we appreciate are "It's a Long Story: My Life," a 2016 David Ritz collaboration that includes fantastic context on Willie's Austin years, and Austinite Turk Pipkin's 2007 classic "The Tao of Willie: A Guide to the Happiness in Your Heart."

Willie Nelson was honored as both a musician and a philanthropist this year. In May, he received the LBJ Liberty and Justice For All Award at a gala and musical tribute. The proceeds from the gala will benefit the newly established Willie Nelson Endowment for Uplifting Rural Communities.
