William Shatner’s stance on signing autographs reads like a Dr. Seuss novel. It’s a no in the restroom, it’s a no when he’s on the phone with his wife. It’s a no when he’s with his grandchildren, and it’s a no because he wants a private life!

The Star Trek star fielded criticism from discouraged fans on Twitter who pressed him on why he won’t offer up his John Hancock. First of all, he says: Stop asking, because his anti-‘graph stance is well-known.

Why? Because Shatner doesn’t consider it to be a simple gesture, no matter how politely one asks.

He’s just being direct and truthful, y’all.

If you think he’s a jerk, why don’t you try getting autograph requests all over the place.

Plus, most of you will just sell it anyway. So what’s the point?

If you try to write to him, he still probably won’t give you an autograph. With over 100,000 written requests a year, he even ignores some charities.

Let him reiterate: It’s NEVER happening in public, people! Unless he’s at something like Comic-Con.

Which he won’t be at this year, FYI.

He’s also staunchly against creative solutions to the problem. Like, would he give out business cards? Ha! No.

Think he’s cantankerous and arrogant? So what!

Take him or leave him. Shatner doesn’t give two you-know-whats about what you think.
