William H. Macy Turns 69 as Wife Felicity Huffman Is Arrested in College Admission Scam
William H. Macy is celebrating his birthday during a stressful time this year.
The actor turns 69 on Tuesday as his wife Felicity Huffman, 56, faces fraud charges for allegedly participating in a scheme to help their oldest daughter Sofia, 18, get into college. Huffman was charged by federal prosecutors with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.
She was arrested early Tuesday morning and taken to a hearing later that day, where judge ruled that the actress could be released on a $250,000 bond, according to The Associated Press.
Macy and Huffman are also parents to daughter Georgia Grace Macy, 16. The pair tied the knot on Sept. 6, 1997 after meeting in the early 1980s at New York City’s Atlantic Theater Company.
She was also ordered to hand over her passport and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at a Boston court on March 29, Deadline reports. She was later seen leaving the Downtown Los Angeles courthouse late Tuesday.
During the hearing, Macy remained by her side. As the judge read off the charges against his wife, the actor, reportedly sat with his head down around families of other defendants, according to Deadline.

Federal court records unsealed Tuesday in Boston name 50 people, including Huffman and Fuller House actress Lori Loughlin, who have been indicted as part of the alleged nationwide scheme, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts.
Huffman allegedly gave $15,000 “to participate in the college entrance exam cheating scheme on behalf of her oldest daughter,” the indictment in the case states.
Federal agents secretly recorded telephone calls with Huffman and a cooperating witness, which allegedly show Huffman agreeing to pay the large sum of money in order to help Sofia get a higher SAT score, the indictment states.
