William Friedkin’s Last Film, ‘The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial,’ to Roll out on Paramount+ Internationally

Studio-backed streaming service Paramount+ has picked up William Friedkin’s last film, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial for all international territories in its global footprint, the company announced Sunday. The feature, written and directed by Friedkin, and based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Hermon Wouk, will have its world premiere at the 80th Venice Film Festival Sunday night.

Paramount+ has scopped up The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial for all international territories where the service is currently live, including for the U.K., Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Australia, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and South Korea.

Domesically, the film, which features an ensemble cast including Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Clarke, Jake Lacy, Monica Raymund, Lewis Pullman, Jay Duplass, Tom Riley and the late Lance Reddick, will go out on Showtime.

Clark plays Barney Greenwald,. a skeptical Naval lawyer who reluctantly agrees to defend Lt. Steve Maryk (Lacy), a First Officer of the Navy facing court-martial for seizing control of the U.S.S. Caine from its domineering captain, Lt. Philip Francis Queeg (Sutherland) during a violent sea storm in unfriendly waters. As the trial progresses, Greenwald becomes increasingly concerned and questions if the events aboard the Caine were a true mutiny or simply the courageous acts of a group of sailors who did not trust their unstable leader.

Produced under Paramount Global’s newly-revived Republic Pictures banner, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial was completed shortly before Friedkin’s death last month. It is the final film from the legendary director of such cinema classics as The French Connection and The Exorcist.
