While everyone can’t seem to stop talking about the season three premiere of Bridgerton (which was only at number eight on the Netflix top 10 shows list as of this past Thursday, in case you were wondering), I haven’t heard nearly enough people talking about the new scandalous drama that snagged the top spot on the list just 24 hours after debuting on the streaming platform Wednesday—which, dare I say, is quite impressive.

Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal is a Netflix limited series that centers around a dating website called Ashley Madison, which is used by people who want to have adulterous affairs. When Ashley Madison is hacked, millions of users’ intimate data is leaked, leaving their marriages and personal lives on the brink of collapse.

The three-episode docuseries follows numerous couples whose lives were affected by the Ashley Madison leak. In an interview with Variety, Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal director Toby Paton shared why he wanted to be a part of this series.

When asked what led him to tell this story, Paton told the outlet, “I got a call about making a series for Netflix—I hadn’t followed it super closely at the time that it happened. And they talked me through the kind of characters they had, and the way they wanted to tell the story, and immediately I just thought, ‘Wow, what a fantastic story.’”

He continued, “I mean, it’s kind of got everything, hasn’t it? It’s got all the kind of propulsive kind of narrative drive of a thriller with the story of the hack, and exposing the data and the investigation into who did it.”

A scandalous thriller about a dating site gone awry? Sounds like my kind of show.
