Taking inspiration from Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated 1990 hit, the international sales company has been renamed as Goodfellas.

The dropping of the original name marks the final act in the company’s departure from the pan-European Wild Bunch AG film group that began in 2019.

“The international sales company will now be called Goodfellas. There are no other changes to the structure created in 2019,” the company said in a short statement.

It has yet to release a logo for the new banner.

The Wild Bunch Group was created in 2015 out of the merger of French company Wild Bunch and Germany’s Senator and is now majority owned by German entrepreneur Lars Windhorst.

Original Wild Bunch co-founders Vincent Maraval and Brahim Chioua and their 15-person-strong team struck out as a standalone international sales company under the banner of Wild Bunch International (WBI) in 2019 but maintained the association with their old company for a three-year term.

When the deal came to an end in November 2022, they were bound by the terms of the deal to end their use of the Wild Bunch name.

Although they had set their hearts on Goodfellas back in January, the company kept their plans under wraps until they had properly broached the subject with Scorsese out of respect for the director.

The newly named company reiterated its independence but said it would still work with the Wild Bunch Group, which is now run by Sophie Jordan and Ron Meyer.

“While Goodfellas is now owned and operated separately from the Wild Bunch Group, the companies will continue to work together through a new co-financing agreement that includes the development and production of, and participation in, select new projects.”

Addressing the name change in an interview with Deadline in January, Maraval acknowledged he had gone through “a period of mourning” but had then moved on to focus on building the new structure.
