Wilco Enlist Jason Isbell, Nick Lowe, Iris DeMent for 2024 Solid Sound Festival

Wilco have enlisted Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Nick Lowe and the Straitjackets, and Iris DeMent for the 2024 Solid Sound Festival. The three-day event will take place June 28 through 30 at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts.

Wilco, as always, will play host and headliners, while a few of its individual members will play additional sets, too. Frontman Jeff Tweedy will helm a “Jeff Tweedy and Friends” performance, while guitarist Nels Cline and drummer Glenn Kotche will perform with Darin Gray and Chris Corsano as the Saccata Quartet.

The Solid Sound 2024 lineup also features Dry Cleaning, Wednesday, Horsegirl, Joanna Sternberg, Fenne Lily, Haile Mergia, Ratboys, Mikaela Davis, Soul Glo, Water From Your Eyes, Courtney Marie Andrews, and a DJ set from Sylvan Esso. Some non-musical offerings include John Hodgman’s Comedy Cabaret, a live version of the Song Exploder podcast (with Tweedy set to speak with host Hrishikesh Hirway), and even a live painting demonstration from the artist Steve Keene.

Tickets for Solid Sound 2024 are on sale now via the festival’s website. Tickets will also cover admission to the MASS MoCA museum, which will feature temporary exhibitions from  Laurie Anderson, Osman Khan, Elle Pérez, Amy Yoes, and Jason Moran during the festival.

Wilco spent much of this fall on the road in support of their most recent album, Cousin, which was released in September, as well as their 2022 offering, Cruel Country. Amidst all that, Tweedy also published his third book, World Within a Song: Music That Changed My Life and Life That Changed My Music, in which he pontificates on an array of tunes, from traditional spirituals to contemporary pop hits.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Tweedy spoke about trying to remain an attentive and eager listener, especially to new artists: “Even if it wasn’t something I’m naturally curious about, I think it’s the most important part of what I do. I want to feed the part of me that gets excited by something unpredictable. You could spend your whole time going backwards, even, and still find something every day. I mean, I would’ve killed for this scenario when I was a kid, that I could just dial up anything I was reading about and hear what it sounded like, immediately. So it’s a way of honoring that kid in me.”
