Wicomico County Council results: Who is leading

Wicomico County Council primary races drew a total of 21 candidates. Democrats did not put up a candidate for two of the districts.

For at large district, Republicans John T. Cannon, Katherine Jones, Dutch Schwemlein and James Winn faced off. Cannon, with 37.38%, or 3,644 votes and Winn who received 29.10%, or 2,837 votes, lead the pack after early voting and election day voting, according to unofficial results. Two Democrats entered the race and will move on to the general election: Bradley J. Gillis and Megan Outten.

For District 1, Republican Kyle E. Cole was unopposed. Democrats Monica Brooks, Amber Green and Shanie P. Shields were in the race, with Brooks getting 357 votes, or 42.65%, Shields second with 310 votes equaling 37.04%, and Green receiving 170 votes or 20.31%.

In District 2, the Republican candidates were Jasmine Knorr, Jeff Merritt and David Louis Snyder, with Merritt getting 1,133 votes totaling 63.01%. Knorr receiving 24.19%, or 435 votes and Snyder getting 230 votes or 12.79%. Democratic candidates were Darrin L. Johnson, Sr. and Talana D. Watson, with Watson getting 63.91% by way of 503 votes. Johnson received 36.09%, or 284 votes.

For District 3 Republican candidates were Shane T. Baker and Larry W. Dodd, with Baker winning with 852 votes, or 58.92%. Dodd's 594 votes got him only 41.08%.

For District 4, Republican Kyle Lamonte Brown and Democrat Josh Hastings were each unopposed in the primary.

For District 5, Republican candidates were AJ Angello and Joe Holloway, with Holloway winning with 72.92% with 1,142 votes. Angello mustered only 424 votes to get 27.08%.

Mail-in and provisional ballot counts remain pending with counting of mail-in ballots not beginning until July 21 at 10 a.m. Local election officials will count ballots through July 29, and mail-in ballot counting will continue for a number of days after election day.
