Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks’ Charlie Griffin Dies in Boating Accident

Charlie Griffin, a fishing boat captain who was featured on multiple seasons of National Geographic’s Wicked Tuna spinoff, Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks, died in a boating accident Monday.

His death was confirmed via the official Facebook page for Griffin’s vessel Reels of Fortune:

It is with the deepest sadness we report that Charlie Griffin and his beloved dog, Leila, have passed away in a boating accident today, March 4. Please keep family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. We will forever remember Griff!

According to The Outer Banks Voice, the U.S. Coast Guard received a report of an overdue vessel Monday that was traveling from Virginia to Wanchese, N.C. It was eventually located off Pea Island, where Griffin’s body was recovered.

Reports indicate that the search continues for a second, unidentified occupant that was aboard the vessel. No further details are available as of press time.

Griffin and Reels of Fortune — which included his son/first mate Jake Griffin — were featured on Seasons 4 and 5 of Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks (fka Wicked Tuna: North vs. South), which aired in 2017 and 2018. All episodes are currently streaming on Disney Plus.
