Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel celebrated one wicked milestone on Monday.

The actresses were together again at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, as they both attended the 20th anniversary performance of Wicked, the Broadway blockbuster musical by lyricist Stephen Schwartz and librettist Winnie Holzman.

Dressed in two eye-catching looks, Chenoweth, 55, and Menzel, 52, posed for photographers on the red carpet while holding hands and sharing a laugh amid snaps.

Chenoweth wore a strapless, tiered, ruffled white dress with accents of green glitter and matching green shoes. Menzel opted for a green-and-pink plaid trench, which she accessorized with a pink silk belt and sparkling silver broaches.

Of course, both actresses have history with Wicked, having originated the roles of Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, when the musical — based on the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire — opened on Broadway on Oct. 30, 2003.

Though already stage stars in their own right,Wicked catapulted Chenoweth and Menzel into the echelon of musical theater icons. Menzel even won a Tony for her work in 2004 (one of three trophies the show took home that night).

Wicked's anniversary performance on Monday capped a weekend of events honoring the show.

The fun started with a performance on Good Morning America Friday. The following day, the breezeway outside the Gershwin Theatre was transformed into a "Wicked Day Block Party" with exclusive photo ops, music from DJ Mike Borowski and activations with 20th Anniversary partners like Hershey’s, Shake Shack, Catch ‘N Cream, TodayTix, the New York City Parks Department, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Audience Rewards, Scenery Bags and more.

Two performances on Sunday were themed after Glinda and Elphaba. Fans who attended the "Pink Performance" matinee were able to take home exclusive pink merch, a commemorative button, a signed card and a collectible Playbill. The "Green Performance," at 8 p.m., gave the same gifts but themed around the color green.

Ahead of the anniversary show Monday night, New York City officially become the Emerald City when the Empire State Building was lit in green to commemorate the musical's two decades of success.

Catching up with PEOPLE in 2018 in honor of Wicked's 15th anniversary, Chenoweth and Menzel reflected on falling in love with the show from the start.

"It was a perfect fit right from the start!" Chenoweth said. "Very few times in our career do we have a hand-in-glove moment, and Glinda was mine. I just thought when I read it, ‘This is my part! And if anybody else plays Glinda, I’ll kill them in their sleep! [laughs]."

"I remember I had to learn ‘Defying Gravity’ for my callback, and I started learning at home and I was crying to my e- husband, who was working on it with me at the time," recalled Menzel. "I really wanted it so badly. I would get chills when the music would start and the intro! I had no idea what it would become but I knew it was something special. I needed this role to teach me something about life that I needed to learn."
