Tom Sandoval was prepared for Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test to try to chip away at his self-care routines.

The Vanderpump Rules star, 41, exclusively shares with PEOPLE what his initial reactions were to his interrogation — and the questions about his style choices.

Ahead of Monday’s season 2 finale of the Fox reality series, Sandoval admits he kept his signature nail polish on during his time on the series because he “thought it'd be kind of funny.”

Sandoval reveals he believes it helped tell the contestants' story better. “I was actually kind of glad that I had it on because I felt like it went along with our story of being social media influencers and not soldiers or in training or anything like that.”

The TV personality confesses he anticipated a conversation about his nail care, saying, “It might be something that somebody in that situation might bring up, especially in the interrogation part.”

As for his reaction to the atypical question, he reveals that the interrogator’s interest “didn't really throw [him] off.”

During the season finale, Sandoval and the four remaining recruits — Tyler Cameron, Erin Jackson, JoJo Siwa and Nick Viall — were captured and taken into their final stage of selection, where they faced hours of intense, military-grade interrogation.

But during Sandoval’s six-hour interrogation, he was tasked with changing in front of the interrogator, who then asked, “What’s with the varnish on your nails?”

The TomTom bar owner replied, “Oh, it’s just kinda my thing.”

But the Special Forces interrogators weren’t entirely impressed by the TV personality’s nail care and suggested that the TV personality deserves “a slap or worse.”

One interrogator then grabbed Sandoval’s hands, seeming to reference the reality star's nail polish, and commanded, “I want you to forget about this. I want you to start listening to what you’re being told. No messing around. No delaying things.”

The Schwartz & Sandy's co-owner's love of nail polish has been a hot topic for Bravo fans in the months since the Scandoval, when he exploded his nine-year relationship with Ariana Madix, 38, by having a months-long affair with their friend and costar Rachel "Raquel" Leviss, 29.

“I’m not about to walk around town with some grubby-ass chipped nails,” Sandoval once said to justify making time for a nail appointment at the expense of a meeting with his castmate and business partner Tom Schwartz, 40.

Sandoval headed to film Special Forces on the heels of the public backlash he faced following his affair with Leviss.

Earlier in the season, he explained his recent misdeeds to his Special Forces castmates: “I had an affair, and it just blew up. People were messaging me paragraphs of just, like, vicious, like, so visceral, like, hatred.”

Season 2 of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test can be streamed in full on Hulu.
