Why Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Won’t Be at the 2024 Met Gala Despite Being Invited

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will not be among the stars at the 2024 Met Gala, according to a report from TMZ on April 19. Multiple sources told the outlet that the couple had been individually invited to the famed fashion event, but each declined to go.

Page Six sparked some hope on April 29 that Swift could attend, but People and Entertainment Tonight dashed it quickly, reporting that Swift isn’t really going.

Blame her absence on work, TMZ, People, and Entertainment Tonight all made clear. Swift resumes her Eras Tour on May 9 in Paris; the Met Gala is on May 6 in New York. People reported that Swift will indeed be “focusing on rehearsals and tour prep” that Monday evening.

Kelce and Swift have not hidden their relationship. They’ve been photographed together at huge events, like the Super Bowl and Coachella. However, they have yet to make their red carpet debut. The Met Gala could have given them that milestone, but work comes first.

The Met Gala will have plenty of other big stars, with co-chairs including Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, and Jennifer Lopez.

Meanwhile, Swift just released her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, on April 19. Fans believe a few songs on it are about Kelce.

A source told Entertainment Tonight on April 19 that Kelce has been doing his best to support his girlfriend’s big career moment.

“He knows how much this means to her and thinks she’s extremely talented,” the source said. “Taylor and Travis admire each other’s creative processes and work ethic. They cheer each other on, respect each other’s opinions, and are open and communicative.”

They added that Swift “is so excited” about the release.

“She has put her heart and soul into the music, just like with everything she does, and can’t wait for her fans to listen to it and to share it with them,” they continued.
