Savannah Guthrie

The most recent episode of Today was airing as normal until Savannah Guthrie got up and left the show as it was still taping.

On Friday, April 26, viewers watched as Guthrie — who was also absent from Monday's episode — left the first hour of the morning newscast a little early.

It wasn't until her co-host, Hoda Kotb, addressed the mysterious absence that the audience had answers as to why the 52-year-old suddenly exited. “Savannah left a little early today to get her weekend started,” Kotb told the audience, per Us Weekly.

Guthrie also shared a picture of a highlighter yellow Post-It note stuck to what appeared to be a Today schedule. The note read, "Time to get your Fri-Yay on!" and included a smiley face. Alongside the image, which was shared to her Instagram Story in the early morning on Friday, the TV personality wrote, "TODAY SHOW producer Seth ready for the weekend."

What the author and media personality has in store for her weekend remains unclear, but with local weather forecasts suggesting the area will have clear blue skies and reach temperatures around 60 degrees Fahrenheit, we hope she enjoys the fresh air and some fun in the sun!

As for why Guthrie was absent from the April 22 episode, at the time, 59-year-old Kotb simply explained that she was “taking some time off today.” Filling in for Guthrie earlier this week was third-hour host Sheinelle Jones, who was also missing from Friday's broadcast, according to the outlet.
