Let’s throw it way back to the ’90s, when Friends was a global phenomenon and Reese Witherspoon was a 23-year-old new mom. It was against that backdrop that Witherspoon found herself nervous to meet Jennifer Aniston on the show’s set, as she’s confessing now in a new interview.
“We met on the set of Friends; I played her sister,” Witherspoon told Natalie Portman for the November cover story of Harper’s Bazaar. “I was 23 years old and had just had a baby,” she continued. “I was nursing Ava on set, and Jen just kept going, ‘You have a baby?’ I was like, ‘I know, it’s weird.’”

Witherspoon remembered the scenario involved a relatable challenge nursing moms face back at work. “I remember her being like, ‘Where are you going?’ And I was like, ‘I’m pumping!’” she recalled.
“I was really nervous, and she was like, ‘Oh, my gosh — don’t worry about it!’ I marveled at her ability to perform in front of a live audience like that with no nerves,” Witherspoon told the magazine. “They would change all the lines and she was just so effortlessly affable, bubbly, and sunny.”
Despite Witherspoon’s early nerves, it was nothing but love on the set. “She was so sweet to me,” she said of Aniston, adding, “We’ve been friends ever since.”

These days, Witherspoon and Aniston are cooking up an entirely new project together: The Morning Show, which is set for a November 1 debut on Apple TV. It will be one of the platform’s first scripted series. The comedy drama, set in — wait for it — a morning show newsroom, also stars Steve Carell, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Billy Crudup, Néstor Carbonell, and Mark Duplass.
