Queen Elizabeth is synonymous with poise and protocol, but she was actually amused when things went haywire, a former aide claims.

Samantha Cohen, who served as the late Queen's former assistant private secretary during her 18-year career at the royal household, shared the insight in a new interview with The Herald Sun.

"The Queen had no ego, she was so comfortable in herself, yet she loved it when things went wrong. If a cake was not cutting or a plaque didn’t unveil, because everything was so perfectly organized, it spiced her life up when things went wrong," Cohen told the Australian newspaper, according to The Telegraph.

"I loved, loved, loved the job as the Queen’s assistant private secretary. They were happy times because the Queen was in great form," she added.

According to the outlet, Cohen said she saw the monarch almost every day for nearly a decade and had her own bedroom at Windsor Castle. In a sign of their bond, the former palace aide said the long-reigning monarch invited her to bring her family to Balmoral Castle in Scotland and Sandringham House in Norfolk for Christmas.

Cohen joined the royal household team in 2001 as an assistant communications secretary to Queen Elizabeth and rose through the ranks to become her assistant private secretary. She transitioned to the role of private secretary to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 before leaving the palace office the following year.

The executive grew up in Australia and said the "best times" during her tenure with Queen Elizabeth were on the two royal tours to her home country.

Cohen also revealed Queen Elizabeth's nickname for her: "Samantha Panther," a nod to her dedicated work ethic.

The former palace staffer also told the Herald Sun how the royal was excited about launching an official YouTube account, which went live in 2007.

"We did a mockup and showed the Queen what YouTube was. She said: 'Fantastic.' She was up for it," Cohen told the outlet, per The Telegraph.

"The Queen and I used to talk a lot. I miss her, she was a special woman," Cohen said.
