With Prince Harry returning to the U.K. for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, the British tabloid talk is naturally going to turn to the family feud. In light of King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis and the Duke of Sussex’s blink-and-you-miss-it trip to see his father in February, there seems to be a softening in the royal rift — not a full-reconciliation — but there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

That is not the case with his brother, Prince William, who seems rooted in his stubbornness to not meet his younger sibling halfway. What has happened, according to a Daily Beast source close to the Wales family, is that “both sides understand each other’s position clearly now” and there is no middle ground. “William and Catherine felt completely betrayed by Harry’s memoir (Spare),” they continued. “They don’t speak to Harry and Meghan, and they are certainly not about to start when Catherine is at her most vulnerable.”

However, William isn’t going to get in the way of his father having a relationship with his younger brother. A second pal thinks that “cancer puts things in perspective” and “the whole situation [with Harry] doesn’t use up a huge amount of their mental energy anymore,” so the Prince of Wales is fine with his dad and Harry coming together. “William respects his father’s wish to reconcile with his son, but his focus now is on protecting his family from stressful situations,” the second source added.

Even though Charles is willing to speak with his son, The Telegraph seems to think that he may not have time for Harry because his royal schedule is “quite busy.” The truth is, Queen Camilla might be standing in the Duke of Sussex’s way. She’s reportedly still hurt by Harry’s depiction of her in his memoir. “I didn’t relish losing a second parent, and I had complex feelings about gaining a stepparent, who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar,” he wrote in his book.

As much as Harry wants to see his dad, the palace walls are quite high. Fans know William has closed the gate, and Camilla’s likely protecting her husband amid his health battles — it’s a royal war that is hard to win.
