Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s Archewell Foundation Is No Longer Listed As “Delinquent”

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s charitable foundation is no longer listed as delinquent.
Almost two weeks after the California Attorney General’s Office issued a notice of delinquency to the Archewell Foundation, a philanthropic organization the Duke and Duchess of Sussex founded in 2020, the nonprofit’s status has been updated. “After being in touch with our Registry of Charities and Fundraisers, the organization is current and in good standing,” the office confirmed to the Los Angeles Times.
An organization determined to be delinquent cannot fundraise or spend money. While Page Six initially reported that the foundation’s delinquent status was due to unpaid annual registration fees, a source close to Archewell told Bazaar the necessary payments and paperwork were filed accurately, on time, and in accordance with IRS regulations. Additionally, the associated payment was received on schedule.
“We have diligently investigated the situation and can confirm that the Archewell Foundation remains fully compliant and in good standing,” a spokesperson for the nonprofit said in a statement. “Due payments were made promptly and in accordance with the IRS’s processes and procedures. Furthermore, all necessary paperwork had been filed by the foundation without error or wrongdoing.”
California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued a delinquency notice to the Archewell Foundation on May 3, which explained that the organization had been determined “delinquent with the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers for failing to submit required annual report(s) and/or renewal fees,” according to a document published by Page Six. The Attorney General’s Office website further explains: “When a charitable organization fails to submit complete filings for each fiscal year, its status on the Attorney General’s Registry of Charities and Fundraisers will be listed as Delinquent. If the delinquency is not remedied, the Registry status will be further changed to Suspended, and/or Revoked.”
Harry and Meghan launched the Archewell Foundation shortly after stepping down from their roles as senior, working members of the British royal family.
“We believe that philanthropy is not a handout; it’s a hand held,” the foundation’s website reads. “We consciously partner with key organizations and leaders to identify immediate needs, build meaningful initiatives, and drive long-term change. We are committed to uncovering and resolving the root causes of issues, prioritizing lasting solutions over temporary fixes.”
