Why So Many Celebrities Are Praising Amy Schumer's Latest Bare-Faced Selfie

Amy Schumer has scored the support of Hollywood’s A-listers.

When the comedian captioned a bare-faced selfie “looking forward to your kind words,” she was likely aiming it at many of her critics, and not anticipating the warm response she received in the comment section from her fellow celebrities.

“Brave beautiful BADASS,” TV heroine Mariska Hargitay–who knows a thing or two about being a badass, herself, as she plays Olivia Benson on Law & Order—wrote.

Christina Hendricks chimed in with, “I have such deep admiration for you. Total package. And a total babe,” while Jamie Lee Curtis added, “BEAUTY.”

“You are beautiful ❤️,” Isla Fisher—who recently announced her divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen—noted. “I love you! I have nothing but kind words for you!❤,” wrote Julie Bowen, as Jewel added, “Giving Bo Derek!!❤️❤️❤️”

“You are honestly one of my heroines. Your courage, your transparency, your lack of pretense, your LOVE, your loyalty, your SMARTS, your incredible, sometimes painful sense of HUMOR . I am on your team through thick and thin. With love, Glenn,” Glenn Close penned.

Fellow comedian Sarah Silverman took a funnier approach, simply stating, “Phenomenal rack.”

In the mirror selfie uploaded to Instagram, the Life & Beth star donned a fitted navy tank, wet hair parted to the side, and almost no makeup. It’s one of the only vulnerable updates she’s shared since facing a slew of criticism about her physical looks following appearances on Watch What Happens Live and The Tonight Show, during which many viewers pointed out her face appeared to be puffy and swollen.

Schumer initially took to Instagram to sarcastically thank everyone for their “input” about her “face," writing in a direct response to haters on Feb. 15, “I've enjoyed feedback and deliberation about my appearance as all women do for almost 20 years."

At the time, she explained that her endometriosis and "medical and hormonal things” were to blame.

However, she later expressed genuine gratitude for the unsolicited comments, as they led to her Cushing syndrome diagnosis, a revelation she made in the News Not Noise newsletter.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Cushing syndrome occurs as a result of the body having too much of the cortisol hormone over an extended period of time, with symptoms such as a rounded face, pink or purple stretch marks and a fatty hump between the shoulders.

“Everyone is struggling with something. Maybe we can all be a little kinder to each other and ourselves,” she said during the interview.

It’s a welcome change to see Schumer getting so much love and support from friends and strangers alike, as she's promised to remain someone who vows to continue advocating for women’s health and speaking out against online shaming.
