Why Man Says He Partially Blames Ex-Wife For Son Becoming Sexual Predator

Jim’s 18-year-old son, Colin, has admitted to sexually molesting several young girls, including his younger sister on two different occasions. Jim says he blames his ex-wife, Kimberly, in part, for their son’s behavior.

“There is no discipline in her household. Colin knew that he would have no consequences for his action and no punishment, and it’s always been that way,” Jim says. “When Colin would make a mistake or do something wrong, his mother would pat him on the back and tell him, ‘Everything’s going to be OK.’”

Jim admits that after Colin molested his sister when she was 11 and 13, neither he or Kimberly called the authorities, a decision he now calls a mistake.

“I let the decision up to his mother because he was in his mother’s custody at the time,” Jim says. “I have no idea why she didn’t call the police.”

Child Protective Services were eventually notified of Colin’s behavior and Colin was removed from the family home for three years. He was enrolled in numerous sexual predator programs but never completed any, blaming his lack of effort on his “laziness.”

Jim says now that his son is 18, he doesn’t believe he will re-offend. “I have faith in my son that any sexual deviances that he has are no longer there,” he says. “I do not think Colin is a danger to Addison or anyone else.”
