Why Gwyneth Paltrow Attended Rob Lowe’s Hollywood Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony

Rob Lowe is Team GP.

On Tuesday, The Grinder star, 51, received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. While we knew Jewel wouldn’t attend the one-time Brat Packer’s induction ceremony, another, even more famous blonde — Gwyneth Paltrow — was. The Goop goddess’s attendance was a bit of a head-scratcher until she spoke out at the podium about their connection, which was formed 25 years ago.

“I met Rob Lowe when I was 17 years old,” Paltrow, 43, told the crowd assembled by Musso and Frank Grill on Hollywood Boulevard, where Lowe’s star has its home. “I was in Los Angeles and trying to start becoming an actress and Sheryl and Rob took me under their wing.”

Sheryl is Rob’s wife Sheryl Berkoff, a makeup artist who worked on a lot of films in the ‘80s and '90s before marrying the actor and having their two sons.

Paltrow’s speech continued, “They were always so loving and familial towards me and I knew that I always had a safe place here when I came to Hollywood.”

Lowe posted a photo of himself with Paltrow on Twitter just prior to the event calling her “the Great @GwynethPaltrow.”

Gwynnie and Rob went on to appear in two of the same movies: Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) and View From the Top (2003). In the latter, he played a pilot to her stewardess and they had a love scene in which they really turned the heat up for.

“We almost tore the set apart,” Lowe reportedly said in an old interview that lives on via Cinema.com. “Gwyneth and I … just went at it.”

It was his first love scene in a decade and his wife was on the set for it.

“Gwyneth and my wife are best pals,” Lowe said at the time. “She’s probably the only actress I could get away with doing a scene like that with.”

Despite being family friends, there were rumors about Gwyneth and Rob in 2012. A blog reported that back when Gwyneth was still married to Chris Martin, they were spotted flirting at the Santa Barbara Zoo — without their spouses. (Lowe lives in the city with his family.) A rep for Paltrow denied the gossip, saying, “[Gwyneth] has known Rob, Sheryl [Berkoff], and their family for almost 20 years. They are dear and close friends and he is like a brother to her.”

Apparently! After all, Gwyneth has a lot of Hollywood connections yet she has attended just one other induction ceremony:
