Why 'The Fall of the House of Usher' Won't Get a Season 2

If you enjoyed The Fall of the House of Usher, I have good news and bad news. The good news: Netflix subscribers clearly enjoyed Mike Flanagan's modern adaptations of Edgar Allen Poe's famous stories. The horror series from the Haunting of Hill House showrunner chronicled the various deaths that befell the great Usher family, depicting a cohesive narrative that touched on "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Masque of the Red Death," "The Pit and the Pendulum," and many more of Poe's classic short stories.

The bad news: Flanagan's latest project is simply a miniseries, and there are no plans for a second season. The House of Usher has fallen by the end of the show's eight episodes, providing our story with a definitive ending. Many of Flanagan's projects for Netflix have also been designed as limited series, including The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass. The horror showrunner still has a lot planned for the future, however, especially after he left Netflix to sign a new deal with Amazon Studios.

As Flanagan told Men's Health last year, "My dream project of all dream projects will always be Stephen King's The Dark Tower." He's since secured the television rights for Dark Tower, as well as King's The Life of Chuck. Tom Hiddleston and House of Usher's Mark Hamill are set to return for Chuck, which will likely premiere sometime in 2024. This chapter of the Usher family may be closed—but another one always opens.
