Why A Dad Says He Doesn’t Care To Know Details Of Teen Daughter’s Sex Trafficking Ordeal

When Darbi was 15, she ran away from home, and her family says she wound up being trafficked for sex. She was rescued after a week and brought back to her mother, Janice. A year later, her family says she’s disappeared again.

Darbi’s father, Wayne says he’s angry with his ex-wife, Janice, because he only found out that Darbi had gone missing for a second time through a group text and a post on social media.

“I would have expected a phone call where we could talk about it. Where we could see what we needed to do to help find her,” says Wayne.

Janice says she didn’t call Wayne when Darbi went missing because “he hasn’t been involved in parenting her.”

When asked whether he knows what happened to Darbi when she was involved in sex trafficking in 2015, Wayne admits – he’s only aware of the broad strokes. “I haven’t cared to get intimate with the details of it because it’s horrific.”

Wayne says he wouldn’t really know what to do to look for his daughter, now, outside of checking social media. He says he hasn’t been able to help much because he lives in Idaho and can’t drive to California to start looking for her.

“I have a job,” says Wayne. “There’s really nothing I can do – I do pray for my daughter’s safety.”

Do Janice and Wayne have any idea where their missing daughter might be? Why do they each claim the other is to blame for Darbi’s problems? Part one of this two-part Dr. Phil airs Wednesday. Check here for your local listing.
