Chris Pine is becoming quite the ballet dancer.

The actor, who co-wrote, directed and stars in the new film Poolman, has been taking classes for the last two and a half years.

"I love everything about it," Pine, 43, tells PEOPLE in this week's issue. "It's so hard. It's great for your body just from an aesthetic standpoint. It requires such tremendous strength."

The classes are even more intense because "they're speaking in French and telling you to do things, and if you haven't done it before, it's like geometry," he adds. "It massages your brain."

It's also a very good workout. "The core is the strength, and then your arms are supposed to be really light and delicate," he says. "I just love the combination of the masculine and the feminine in that regard."

Pine, who produced Poolman as well, sat down with PEOPLE for One Last Thing:

Last moment of bliss
I was lying in bed and looking up at the clouds and it was almost as if the clouds were right in front of my face. To watch them and realize that intricate beauty is happening everywhere all the time and all I had to do was open my eyes and recognize it — it blew my mind apart into sparkle dust.

Last guilty pleasure
Last night at 11:30 I had McConnell’s vanilla bean ice cream with double chocolate fudge cookies. But I also didn’t feel guilty about it, so I guess that’s not totally true.

Last time I was moved to tears
I think in therapy. It’s nice to be able to touch that part of my being. It’s usually about past stuff, so anytime you can revisit that and have that moment of wash is good, you know?

Last game I played
Oh, Duolingo, the app, you learn languages. It’s not really a game, but it’s like one. I have Italian, French, Portuguese and Arabic. I’m better at French and Italian, but it’s fun. It passes the time.

Poolman is in theaters May 10.
