Whoopi Goldberg Voices Michelle Buteau's Breasts in New Film “Babes”: 'Dream Come True'

Buteau and director Pamela Adlon detailed the experience on 'The View' as they were joined by Ilana Glazer

Whoopi Goldberg's latest movie role is a "dream come true" for fellow actor Michelle Buteau.

During an interview on The View on Friday, May 17, Buteau detailed how Goldberg, 68, wound up voicing her character Dawn's breasts in the new comedy film Babes, directed by Pamela Adlon.

As Adlon, 57, Buteau, 46, and fellow Babes star Ilana Glazer sat down with The View's hosts for a discussion on their latest project, co-host Sara Haines revealed that she was "not warned about" Goldberg's latest voice acting stint, which saw her portraying Buteau's breasts in a "fantasy sequence."

"[We] wanted to bring Michelle's character Dawn's breasts to life,' explained Glazer, 37. "And we thought, 'Who would do that better than Whoopi Goldberg?' "

"I mean, it's a dream come true," Buteau chimed in. "Dream come true."

Adlon added that it was "kind of unbelievable" to direct Goldberg for the role, which was done over a Zoom call. "It wasn't in person, no," Buteau clarified.

Elsewhere during the appearance on The View, the Babes director revealed that the "comedy" and the "heart" of the project spoke to her, as she called the film's two stars "comedic magicians."

"[I was able to] harness that energy and keep it in a place that we can all relate to," Adlon said of Babes, which marks her feature directorial debut and follows two childhood friends through the journey of motherhood.

"It was real. It had all the pregnancy stuff, so people say, 'Oh, it's a gross-out raunch.' No, it's literally about pregnancy," she said.

Glazer — whose character, Eden, gets pregnant after a one-night stand in the film — previously opened up to PEOPLE about how her own motherhood journey informed her work on Babes while attending the Writers Guild Awards in New York City on April 14. At the time, she called the film a "very joyous approach to parenthood because I am in a very fortunate position where I'm having an amazing experience."

"I mean it's incredibly hard, but no complaints for sure," added Glazer, who shares her 2-year-old daughter with husband David Rooklin.

Glazer also spoke with PEOPLE in 2022 about becoming a mom, and revealed what she wished she had known before she took on the "mind-blowing" experience.

"I'm looking at [my daughter] and I'm like, 'Woah, dude.' And how she's growing and learning every day and how it makes me realize that I'm growing and learning every day — okay, not at the rate at which a baby does — but still, just our unfolding," the Broad City star said.

"I wish someone had told me that sleep was one of the hardest parts of being pregnant," she added. "Your body prepares for being up at all hours with the baby. I wish I was told that so I knew to sleep until like 2 p.m. any day that I could."

Babes, released on May 17, is now in theaters.
