Whoopi Goldberg is reflecting on what could have been with her wardrobe.

In an interview with Page Six Style at the Fashion Group International Night of Stars gala Tuesday, The View co-host, 67, reflected on how the apparel she wore to the 1993 Academy Awards forever changed her course of fashion.

According to The Color Purple star, “everyone hated” her outfit.

The EGOT winner arrived at the Oscars wearing a daring pairing of colors — opting for a lime green and dark purple jumpsuit. The top portion featured a bolero-esque jacket and in addition to the pantsuit, the lower half of her outfit also included a skirt.

Goldberg’s shoes and chandelier earrings kept the lime green and dark purple theme going as she posed for pictures on the carpet.

Her look was reminiscent of the wardrobe she later wore in the 1997 TV adaptation of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella where she starred alongside Brandy and Whitney Houston as Queen Constantina.

Goldberg said critics' responses to her choice chipped away at her confidence at the time.

“It hurt my feelings, I’m not going to lie. It hurt my feelings,” Goldberg said at Tuesday's gala, where she received the American Icon Award.

“It kept me from dressing up for a very long time. You have to remember, in those days, they would say things and you’d think, ‘Do I really look that ridiculous?' ” she continued.

The Sister Act star explained that her bold look was inspired by Lucille Ball’s character on the 1950’s sitcom I Love Lucy.

“Lucy would always come out in these great ensembles. And I thought, 'I would like to wear that!' And green is not a color I would normally wear, let me try it!” she said.

Despite the harsh reviews decades ago, Goldberg claimed she would “absolutely” rock the outfit once again if given the chance.

The daytime television personality now has no qualms about what she keeps in her closet.

During a May 2020 episode of The View, Goldberg gave commentators who had an issue with her re-wearing a particular piece of clothing a piece of her mind.

"People are kvetching at me about the fact that I still am wearing this red and black check thing," she said, pointing to a buffalo plaid jacket that she’d previously worn on-air before. "People say I wear it too much."

"Look at me. Do I care?" Goldberg asked before offering a simple explanation. "No. 'Cause I’m comfortable in this bad boy!"

In May 2019, theTill talent spoke to PEOPLE about the launch of her size-inclusive clothing brand DUBGEE which was named after her initials.

"My weight fluctuates. And if it goes however it goes, I want to feel good about everything I put on," Goldberg said. "There are so many people that think they can’t be fashionable, but not with DUBGEE. You can be whatever you want."
